The southeast geopolitical zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed the party’s zoning arrangement of the president to the north and that of the national chairman to the southern part of Nigeria.
The decision was taken on Monday, October 2, at the PDP zonal executive committee of the party held in Enugu.
The southeast PDP reiterated its commitment to national unity and also reaffirmed the party’s earlier agreement on the zoning of party positions allotted to the southeast in respect of the forthcoming elective National Convention.
Those present at the meeting include former vice president and founding member of the PDP, Chief Alex Ekwueme; the state governors of Enugu (Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi), Abia (Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu) and Ebonyi (Engr. David Umahi represented by his deputy); the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Sen Samuel Anyanwu , Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha and other Present and former members of the National Assembly from the zone;
Others include the party’s caretaker committee national secretary, Senator Ben Obi, speakers of the State House of Assemblies and other principal officers, former governors; Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
The party equally mandated PDP southeast governors, the zonal vice chairman and the National Assembly leaders from the zone to liaise with other geo-political zones in the country to reach an understanding in respect of the party’s next national chairman.
In a previous report by NAIJ.com, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) needs him in 2019 as he knows how to defeat incumbents.
The Ekiti governor had declared his presidential ambition on Thursday, September 28, in an elaborate programme in Abuja.

However, criticism has trailed his declaration as the party has insisted that the presidency has been zoned to the north for the 2019 elections.
Fayose in a series of tweets on Friday, September 29, said the party needs him as he knows how to defeat incumbents.
