- Idris thanked the National Assembly for passing death sentence on kidnappers in a recent law

The Inspector-General if Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has assured Nigerians that his organisation would secure a conviction against alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumebi Onwuamaegbu, better known as Evans.

Idris also said the police would ensure punishment for Henry Chibueze (aka Vampire), another alleged celebrated kidnapper.

Speaking at the security summit held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, on Tuesday, October 3, Ibrahim thanked the National Assembly for passing the anti-kidnapping bill, which stipulates death sentence for culprits, into law.

The Nation quotes the IGP as saying: “With humility, I must state with some amount of confidence that these strategies have worked based on successes achieved so far.

“Most heinous crimes, especially kidnapping and armed robbery, which occurred, have so far been detected.

“You are very much aware of the fate of the notorious kidnapper, Henry Chibueze (alias Vampire) and the billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudi (alias Evans) and many others too numerous to mention here, who were arrested and many of them being prosecuted.

“Considering the detailed investigation being conducted on these cases, Insha Allah, we must gain conviction.”

Idris also praised the police saying the arrest of suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in the South-south and along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway, has helped the country.

“The ability of the Nigerian police to control the secessionist tendency of IPOB in the Southeast is another success story, thanks to the military Operation Python Dance in the Southeast,” the IG stated.
