Police officers arrest masquerades for allegedly robbing Agege residents (photos, video)

The Lagos state police on Tuesday, October 3, arrested some masquerades who were reported to have been robbing innocent residents in Elere, Agege.

Following their arrest, the masquerades were taken to the Ikeja police command and paraded before the commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgar who disclosed that he has gotten several reports about their criminal activities before he ordered their arrest.

Edgar further disclosed that, the masquerades do not just come out at their own will but they end up tormenting innocent people and her also violent.

Narrating their arrest the commissioner of police revealed that: “At about 4pm on Tuesday, October 3, we got a report that some unknown persons have come out in their masquerade attires and following them were miscreants who were using the opportunity to rob innocent and law abiding people of Elere. I immediately sent out the DPO and other policemen to arrest these masquerades and their handlers. We have also received a lot of reports about Elere that these rogue masquerades come out without no authority of the traditional institution and no particular festival is going on now as they are not supposed to be out. They use this medium to rob people. We have warned repeatedly that this command will not accept such acts of play-down of law and order and hooliganism.”
