Security tightened around NNPC HQ following stand-off between Kachikwu and Baru

- Security has been tightened around the NNPC headquarters in Abuja, following the stand-off between Ibe Kachikwu and Maikanti Baru

- Kachikwu had previously accused Baru of sidelining and disrespecting the board of the national oil firm, which he (Kachikwu) chairs, by handing out contracts to the tune of $25 billion without informing the NNPC board

Following the stand-off between Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum, and Maikanti Baru, group managing director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), security has been tightened around the NNPC group headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

In exclusive photos obtained by NAIJ.com, security officials were seen positioned at strategic locations around the complex.

The minister had previously accused Baru of sidelining and disrespecting the board of the national oil firm, which he (Kachikwu) chairs.

In a leaked memo to President Muhammadu Buhari, Kachikwu alleged that the NNPC GMD had given out contracts to the tune of $25bn, without recourse to the NNPC board.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari called for sanity in the embarrassing public debacle between the minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu and Maikanti Baru, the group managing director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation.

The president reportedly specifically ordered that the public bickering must be brought to an end.
