The police command in Rivers said on Wednesday, October 11, it had beefed up security at its headquarters and its environs due to security challenge.
The police public relations officer for the command, Nnamdi Omoni, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt.
Following the development, visitors to the command’s headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, were scrutinised before allowed to enter the premises.
Two police personnel were seen stationed at the pedestrian gate of the command and asked questions concerning the department they intended to visit and made to write their names and given tags.
The development generated long queue of visitors at the gate as visitors were also not allowed to enter the premises with their cell phones.
Before now, visitors usually go in with their cell phone except those visiting the Commissioner of Police, who were made to write their names, address and the department they were going to.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that 10 people lost their lives in Rivers state as a group of gunmen attacked Mgbosimiri, Agip axis of Port Harcourt on Monday, October 9.
The incident which caused panic in the community was said to have happened at about 4am.
As at the time of filing this report, nobody could state the reason for the deadly attack.
It was also gathered that a couple died of gunshot injuries during the raid, Punch reports.
Nnamdi Omoni, the state police public relations officers who confirmed the incident said details about the killings were still sketchy.
