- Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra state have held parallel rallies in the state
- Some of the aggrieved members alleged that the PDP flag bearer for the Anambra governorship election, Oseloka Obaze, is not a member of the party
- The aggrieved members also threatened to support another party if Obaze is not replaced within five days
There is brewing crisis between members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra state over candidature for the state's gubernatorial election.
NAIJ.com gathered that the party on Monday, October 16, held two parallel rallies in preparation for the November 18, Anambra election.
Thousands of some of the aggrieved members who had abandoned the governorship flag-off of Oseloka Obaze in Onitsha, Anambra state's capital city gave the party a five-day ultimatum to produce an new flag bearer for the election.
The aggrieved members who held their rally at the Ekwueme Square in Awka threatened to support candidate from another party other than PDP if Obaze is not withdrawn within five days.
They also argued that Obaze is not a bonafide member of the PDP.
The rally by the aggrieved members had among them, mainstream PDP grassroots leaders from across the 326 electoral ward in the 21 local government areas of Anambra.
The party members insisted that Obaze was still a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which the incumbent Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, who is also in the gubernatorial race is a member.
The PDP member alleged 'original' members of the party were sidelined for an 'outsider to emerge as a flag bearer in the state.
The leader of the group and factional PDP chairman for Anambra state, Ken Emeakayi, said Obaze is not a registered member of the party.
Emeakayi said both Obaze and the former governor of the state, Peter Obi are not of the PDP but APGA and cannot represent the PDP.
“Henry Oseloka Obaze is not a bonafide member of the PDP. He is not a registered member of the PDP," Emeakayi said.
I am the PDP chairman in Anambra state and I have checked the register of all our members and his name is not there.
“We are the original members of the PDP and we cannot allow total outsiders to hijack our great party.
We therefore give our national leadership five days ultimatum to do what is right. We give them five days to withdraw the name of Henry Osaeloka Obaze as a candidate of our party and replace him with any of the other contestants who are all bonafide members of the PDP.
“If they fail to do so in the next five days, we the members of the PDP will take the bold step. If they refuse to do what is right in the next five days we will move ahead en masse to lend our full support to a candidate of any other party of our choice," Emeakayi said.
Also speaking at the Awka rally, the immediate past Anambra PDP state organizing secretary, Samben Nwosu, lamented the sidelining of true leaders of the PDP in the state noting that such cannot be condoned by party members.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Obaze was declared winner of the party's primary election after polling 672 out of 958 votes by delegates of PDP.
Obaze beat other aspirants including a former minister of aviation and senator of the 8th Assembly, Stella Oduah, and the chairman of Capital Oil, Ifeanyi Ubah, at the election.
Aggrieved by the outcome of the election, the former minister said the ultimate result of the ward congress which was submitted by the secretary of the panel was switched for a doctored result.
She also said the exercise by some of the party leaders violated the principles of democratic practice.
