Nigeria's passport is one of the worst in Africa and the world - Report

- Singapore, though small, now has the most powerful passport in the world

- The report just released shows that Nigeria is seriously lagging behind on the list

- The United States of America dropped and the report links it to the emergence of Donald Trump as its president

Among countries of the world, Nigeria has one of the poorest passports and can only visit 44 countries either without visa as they can have such issued to the traveller upon arrival.

This is however not so for other countries in Africa as reported in a Passport Index study revealed on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, by the Canada-based global consultancy Arton Capital.

The report showed that Djibouti and Congo can visit 45 countries visa-free.

The report showed other countries as follows: Algeria (46); Liberia, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, and Burundi and Cameroon (47) are African countries with a stronger passport than Nigeria.

Also, Central Africa Republic (48); Guinea-Bissau, Chad, Egypt (50); Comoros, Gabon, Mali, Madagascar (52); Togo, Niger, Mozambique (53); Rwanda (54); Senegal, Mauritania, Burkina Faso (55); Guinea, Ivory Coast (56); Sao Tome, Benin, Morocco (58); and Ghana, Sierra Leone (60).

Others are: Uganda and Zimbabwe rank higher with 61 and 62 visa-free countries respectively, while Cape Verde, Tunisia and Zambia are on 63; Tanzania (65); Gambia (66); Namibia (67); and Kenya, Malawi (68).

The report also shows that Singapore, with 3.4 million holders and as small as it is, now has the world’s most powerful passport as its citizens can now travel to 159 countries with or without visa.

Singapore was followed by Germany as the report says citizens from the country can visit 158 countries without a visa. Sweden and South Korea came third.

Sixth, according to the report, is the US passport, which tied with Malaysia, Ireland and Canada.

The worst country on the report is Afghanistan which citizens can only visit 22 countries visa-free.

For the US, the report says the country’s passport power dropped since President Donald Trump took office.

Legit.ng earlier reported that as the row between Turkey and the US escalates, the Turkish government says it no longer recognises the US ambassador to Ankara.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced this on Tuesday, October 10, following the row sparked by the arrest of a US consulate employee.
