Breaking: IGP Ibrahim declares readiness to face Senate committee over allegations

Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has finally agreed to appear before the Nigerian Senate over allegations by a legislator, Isa Misau.

Idris is now to appear before a Senate ad-hoc committee probing the allegations by Misau representing Bauchi Central Senatorial district at the upper legislative chamber.

Punch reports that the IGP however said the allegations are legal issues, but decided to go face the committee which had reported him to the Senate over his non-appearance.

On Wednesday, November 1, Idris had written through his lawyer, Alex Iziyon (SAN), to the panel informing it that his appearance would be sub-judice as there were pending cases in court on the matter.

But Senate president, Bukola Saraki, had reportedly said the courts cannot stop Idris from appearing before the committee.

On Friday, November 3, the IGP, who met with President Muhammadu Buhari, said he was now ready to go answer questions from the legislators, but that he was consulting with his legal team.

“These are legal issues. We are discussing with our legal team.

“Obviously, if there is need, we are going to appear for the sake of having respect for the Senate. I will appear before them,” he said adding that he actually met with Buhari over the security situation of the country as well as the forthcoming election in Anambra state.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Nigerian senate issued another warning to police IG over his failure to appear before probe committee.

The senate also issued an ultimatum to the police boss to appear before its committee unfailingly on Tuesday, November 7.
