Nigeria's former vice president Atiku Abubakar has been accused of hijacking the PDP's ward congresses in his home state of Adamawa.

The allegation was made by Atiku's former special assistant, Dr. Umar Ardo, who is a prominent PDP chieftain in the northeastern state.

Ardo further called for the cancellation of the results of the exercise, adding that no election took place in the state.

Ardo spoke with journalists on Tuesday, November 7, after submitting a petition to the Adamawa state PDP Congress appeal panel at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

His words: “No election took place in Toungo, Ganye Mayo Belwa, Demsa, Numan, Shelleng, Yola North, Yola South, Mubi South, Michika and Madagali local government areas.

“The caretaker committee members representing these LGAs simply sat in their rooms and drew up their list and submitted their names as elected executive members and they were admitted.

“It’s an open secret that the members of the committee connived and simply sat down and distributed the party offices among themselves.”

Indicting the former vice president, Ardo said: “He called me to say that I should make sure certain persons get these positions. I disagreed. He has hijacked the PDP in the state.”

Giving his opinion on Atiku’s alleged return to the PDP, Ardo said it will cause serious conflict as there are others in the party who are interested in the post of president.

In a swift reaction, Atiku insisted that he had no hands in the problems of the PDP in his state, adding that he had left the PDP.

“It is ludicrous to accuse a man who is not a member of a party of having hijacked the party structure. Whoever is making this allegation has to look elsewhere for their failings,” Atiku's media aide,” Paul Ibe told Punch.

Atiku, a former member of the PDP, defected to the All Progressives Congress before the 2015 general elections.

Meanwhile, a former minister of aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has charged PDP faithfuls across the country to gear up for a tough general election in 2019.

Fani-Kayode made the call on Wednesday, October 18, during the official declaration of bid for national chairman of the PDP by the former Ogun state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Fani-Kayode who declared his support for Otunba Daniel's candidacy by endorsing him at the event, tasked PDP supporters across the country to be wary of the APC's antics ahead of the 2019 election.
