- A former governor of Abia state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has been dragged into the 2019 presidential race
Posters alleging that a former governor of Abia state, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, is set to contest the 2019 presidential election have surfaced in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.
The posters indicated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain is set to contest for the presidency under the ruling party.
According to Abia-based abnews.com, the posters were largely seen along major roads like Aba road, Umuwaya road, Ikot Ekpene/ BCA road and other places in Abia state.
They bore the inscription: “Vote Orji Kalu for President 2019″
In the last two weeks, the same posters have appeared in major roads in Lags and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
However, in a swift reaction, Dr Kalu has raised an alarm over alleged moves to damage his political relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement made available to journalists by his media aide, Maduka Okoro on Sunday, November 12, Kalu distanced himself from the campaign posters.
“It has come to our notice of the dirty-some attitude being exhibited by some politicians who are uncomfortable and disturbed with the consistent and intimidating profile of Dr Orji Uzor Kalu.
“Dr Orji Uzor Kalu does not have presidential ambition come 2019.
“Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, a strong believer in constitutional democracy supports President Muhammadu Buhari for the completion of his second term which ends in 2023,” the statement said.
The statement said Dr Kalu will rather focus on his ambition to emerge the senator representing the people of Abia North Senatorial District.
The statement further stated that some politicians are intimidated with the rising political profile of Dr Kalu and wants to cause friction between him and APC leaders.
Meanwhile, ahead of the 2019 general elections, an apex youth organisation in the southeast, Ohandigbo Youths Organisation, has begun mobilisation moves for the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group however called for the appointment of more Igbos by the present administration especially in the president's cabinet.
NAIJ.com gathered that the group affirmed at a meeting held at Eziama Ossah Ibeku in Abia state, that they were “committed in mobilising Nigerian youths to convince and elect president Buhari for a second tenure.”
