Auchi poly lecturers join ASUP strike

- Lecturers of the Auchi Polytechnic have joined Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics in their strike

- The lecturers commenced their strike on Monday, November 13

- The chairman of the Auchi chapter of ASUP said the strike is not peculiar to the polytechnic as other institutions would join in to force the federal government to honour the mutual agreement

The lecturers at the Federal Polytechnic Auchi in Edo state have joined the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics in the ongoing strike.

The lecturers of Auchi Poly commenced their own strike on Monday, November 13.

Punch reports that academic activities at the polytechnic campus located at Etsako West local government area of Edo state were grounded.

It was gathered that the lecture halls of the institutions were shut.

However, while the regular students of Auchi Poly were on holidays, having finished their semester examinations, those on part-time studies were said to be affected by the strike.

Also, the national president of ASUP, Usman Dutse, on Saturday, November 11, vowed that the union will begin its nationwide strike from November 13.

The union accused the federal government of failing to implement all agreements it had with ASUP.

Dutse noting some of the demands said the federal government failed to implement the NEEDS assessment report and shortfalls in personnel releases and withdrawal of allowances

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Auchi poly chapter of ASUP, Justin Momodu said the branch acted in compliance with the directive from the headquarters of the union to proceed on the strike.

Momodu also said the strike was not peculiar to the polytechnic as other institutions would join in to force the federal government to honour the mutual agreement.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that ASUP commenced its nationwide strike on Monday, November 13.

The union's decision to embark on a strike action followed federal government's inability to fulfill its part of an agreement entered with ASUP.

The union's leadership announcing its decision said all academic activities in every polytechnic across Nigeria will be grounded.
