- Jack Kane became unwell and doctors gave him just weeks to live
- He proposed to his girlfriend of three years, thinking he's going to pass on
- However, doctors had misdiagnosed him and he announced the good news at his wedding
A man who proposed to his girlfriend after being declared terminally ill stunned guests at their wedding with news of his misdiagnosis.
Jack Kane, 23, and Emma Clarke had been together for three years when he began to experience sensitivity in his legs along with intense back pains.
One day, he woke up and found himself unable to walk. Doctors subsequently diagnosed him with cancer of the spine and told him he only had weeks to live.
Jack immediately decided to propose to Emma before it was too late and she said yes. They planned their hospital wedding for eight days later.
A day prior to the wedding, doctors performed another spinal biopsy and discovered that the tumor had actually shrunk. In fact, they told him he didn't have terminal cancer.
The relieved couple decided to keep the news secret until they announced it at the wedding, leaving guests pleasantly surprised. In an interview, Emma said:
"As long as I live, I will never forget the atmosphere in the room when Jack said ‘I’m not terminal’. You could hear a pin drop. Everyone looked like they were taking seconds to register what was going on, then the room erupted into cheers and crying."
Jack is still receiving medical attention for his condition but the couple remains optimistic about the future. He said:
"My legs may never come back, but there are people worse off than me. I won’t be beaten by something I can’t see."
