FG budgets N4.8bn for maintenance of Aso Rock in 2018

- Nigeria's FG has proposed to spend N4.86bn on maintenance of the presidential villa in 2018

- There is a decline of about N90m when compared to 2017 budget

- President Muhammadu Buhari recently submitted the 2018 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly

The federal government has proposed a budget of N4.86bn in the 2018 fiscal year on maintenance of the presidential villa, Abuja in what can be termed a decline when compared to the N4.95bn allocated for annual routine maintenance of villa facilities in the 2017 budget.

This represents a decline of about N90m.

In total, N11.54bn was allocated for the state house headquarters in the proposed 2018 budget with a total capital allocation of N7.1bn and recurrent expenditure of N4.43bn.

President Muhammadu Buhari recently submitted the 2018 budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly having a total allocation of N8.61tn.

The proposal was made up of N3.49tn for recurrent, N2.43tn for capital, debt servicing and statutory transfers among others are estimated at N2.01tn and N456bn respectively.

A breakdown of the state house budget according to Punch, indicated that aside from the N4.86bn for annual maintenance, the State house has outstanding liabilities of N565.65m for routine maintenance for 2016.

Other budget proposals include:

1. N907.1m for phased replacement of vehicles, spares and tyres in the presidential security/police escor.

2. N284.58m for renovation work at state house security quarters.

3. N93.6m for electronic document management system.

4. N17.74m to upgrade state house library

5. N28.9m to upgrade villa ranch and construction of wildlife conservation.

6. N83.7m for purchase of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, ambulances and other utilities and operational vehicles.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that mixed reactions trailed the 2018 budget proposal of N8.6 trillion, shortly after it was presented by President Muhammadu Buhari before a Joint Session of the National Assembly in Abuja.

Some lawmakers expressed satisfaction with the budget which has a nominal increase of 16 per cent above the 2017 Budget estimate and tagged “Budget of Consolidation’’.
