Why President Buhari can't fulfil all campaign promises - Oyegun
- Chief Oyegun praised the performance of the Buhari-led administration
- He said they were aspirational and for the future
- He, however, noted that some campaign promises have not been fulfilled
John Odigie-Oyegun who is the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that some of the campaign promises made by the party are aspirational.
According to report, the APC chairman spoke during the public presentation of the mid-term scorecard on the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, titled: ‘Making Steady, Sustainable Progress for Nigeria’s Peace and Prosperity’.

Oyegun said some persons have been saying the party is denying some of its promises but explained that while some of them are achievable, others are long-term plans.
He said: “I have heard some people accuse us of denying some of our campaign promises and I wonder what they are talking about.
“The manifesto of any political party must necessarily contain two categories of promises – those that are achievable immediately and within the lifespan of the administration and; those that are aspirational.
“We are only slightly beyond the halfway mark in our first four years, yet have achieved so much, so Nigerians have good reason to look forward to the future with great hope.
“Yes, there are real challenges that people face every day. We have accepted the responsibility to improve the quality of lives of every Nigerian. This clearly is already working very much in progress.
“l am confident that with this publication being presented here today, we would have answered, loud and clear, those who have asked us what we have achieved in two years.
“I thank the President’s media team who has worked to put this wonderful publication together.
“An often overlooked major achievement of the anti-corruption war is that President Buhari has brought the issue of corruption to the heart of national consciousness.
“Every single day, when you open the newspapers, read online, listen to radio or television, there are conversations going on about corruption.
“The fact that Nigerians are talking about it means we have not accepted it as a way of life and as long as ordinary people continue to show that disdain for corruption, we would win the war sooner or later.
“The over-subscription of our Eurobonds for 4 consecutive times and our improved rating on ease of doing business ranking are key pointers to the increasing trust and confidence that investors and the international community generally have about our country and especially our government’s determination to fight corruption.”
Meanwhile, President Buhari on Thursday, November 16, said he had resolved to pay back the goodwill Nigerians extended towards him during his recent health crisis by protecting their interests with all the energy at his disposal.
Punch reports the he restated his administration’s commitment to improving security, fighting corruption and restructuring the economy.
