I received more support from the South-east when I was president - Jonathan

- Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed that during his presidency, he received more support from the South-east region

- The former Nigerian president stated that the support he got from the South-east was even more than that which he got from his own South-south region

- Jonathan further urged Nigerians to elect their leaders peacefully and defend the nation’s democracy

Immediate past president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has stated that when he was in power, he enjoyed more support from the South-east, even more than his own South-south region.

According to reports, the ex-president made his comments during the grand finale of the campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag-bearer for the Anambra gubernatorial election, Oseloka Obaze, which took place in Onitsha.

Legit.ng notes that Jonathan also urged Nigerians to defend the nation’s democracy.

He stated: “We must collectively defend democracy in the country because no matter what you are, until you are able to elect your leader peacefully, the international community will not take you as developed society.

“Where elections are manipulated, there is no election. We use this opportunity to mobilise all Nigerians, especially the people of the state to stand firm for democracy and to do everything to protect democracy.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan praised the admiration his administration gave Igbos, whom he said were well represented and positioned in his presidency than in any other presidency ever.

Jonathan also said that his administration created lots of job opportunities and constructed many projects in the South-east.
