Breaking: INEC declares Obiano winner of Anambra election

- The INEC has declared Governor Willie Obiano as the winner of Anambra election

- He defeated other 36 contestants in the keenly contested election

- The candidate of UPP, Osita Chidoka had earlier congratulated Obiano even before INEC officially announced the results

The incumbent Governor of Anambra state and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Willie Obiano, has emerged winner of Saturday, November 18, governorship election in the state.

Legit.ng reports that 457,311 voters were accredited for the election and the total votes cast were 448,771. The candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and incumbent governor of the state, Willie Obiano polled a total number of 234,071 while the candidate of APC, Tony Nwoye, polled 98,752.

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Oseloka Obaze, polled 70,293 while the candidate of UPP, Osita Chiidoka polled 7,903. 448,771 votes cast

The total valid votes were 422,314 while 26,457 were rejected.

Obiano who will serve for another four years as governor defeated 36 others to emerge the winner.

Legit.ng gathered that he won in all the 21 local government areas by a wide margin after winning his local government, Anambra east and defeated all his opponents in their local governments.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Tony Nwoye, is far behind in second position. The PDP candidate Oseloka Obaze, came third while Osita Chidoka of the UPP came a distant fourth.

There were 2.16 million voters with permanent voter cards for the election which had a record 37 contestants.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Governor Willie Obiano is projected to be returned as governor in the Anambra state following his performance in the polls held on Saturday, November 18.
