Senator Uba mourns Alex Ekwueme, condole family members

- Senator Andy Uba has condoled with the family of former vice president Dr Alex Ekwueme

Senator Andy Uba has condoled with the family of former vice president Dr Alex Ekwueme, the people of Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Anambra state and Nigeria as a whole on the loss of the former vice president of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme.

Senator Uba who stated that Dr Ekwueme's selfless contribution in Nigeria's democracy cannot be overemphasized, prayed that the Almighty God grant everyone connected to the late politician the fortitude to bear his demise.

In a press statement sent to NAIJ.com, Senator Uba who is currently representing the immediate constituency of the late vice president, hailed Ekwueme's contributions to Nigeria's democracy.

“I want to sincerely condole with the family of Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, GCON and the people of Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Anambra State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the loss of this great Iconic figure and Former Vice President of Nigeria.

“Dr Ekwueme's selfless contributions to Nigeria's democracy cannot be overemphasized.

“I therefore honour his legacy and mourn his loss alongside his family and the people of Nigeria. I pray that the Almighty God grant us the fortitude to bear this great loss,” the statement said.

While addressing men of the Senate Press Corps after he moved a motion on the demise of the late vice president recently, Senator Uba remarked that the deceased was a giant piece of Nigeria's democratic history.

He added that Dr. Ekwueme's peaceful transition is no doubt a national loss but also one which dealt a very big blow on the constituents of the Anambra South Senatorial District, which he represents.

Senator Andy also reiterated the need to immortalise the departed political juggernaut, by naming a national monument in his honour.

Dr Ekwueme, a former vice president during the tenure of Shehu Shagari, passed away in a London hospital in the late hours of Sunday, November 19.

“The family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme (GCON).

“The sad event occurred at The London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017,” a statement signed by HRH Prof Lazarus Ekwueme, younger brother of the deceased, read.
