A picture of sad broken Mugabe just before he signed his resignation has gone viral

A photo of the former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace was reportedly taken just before he signed his resignation.

This is the first image of Mugabe to be released since he stepped down. The once powerful leader was reduced to old and defeated man.

NAIJ.com learnt that the picture shows Grace with her husband and a few selected 'friends' who had stuck with the nonagenarian in his last moments of power.

Among them is the former governor of the Zimbabwean reserve bank, Gideon Gono.

Grace does not project her usual bravado and looks dejected.

A social media user commented that she looked "like she hasn’t slept in days, the arrogance wiped from her face. What’s “stress” in Shona?"

Mugabe's last public appearance was on Sunday, November 19, when he defiantly refused to step down after the army had placed him under house arrest and his party, the Zanu-PF, had expelled him and his wife.

The former president will receive his pension and immunity from prosecution, but besides that little is known of what his future holds.

The former vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has been sworn in as president of Zimbabwe. He returned on Wednesday, November 22, where he addressed cheering crowds of Zimbabwean citizens who had waited hours for his arrival.

Meanwhile, former president Robert Mugabe has been granted immunity from prosecution as part of a deal that led to his resignation, sources close to the negotiations said on Thursday, November 23.

NAIJ.com gathered that the 93-year-old leader has also been assured that his safety will be protected in Zimbabwe.

Sources close to the resignation negotiations claimed Mugabe wants to die in his home country and has no plans to go into exile.
