Jalo told newsmen in Gombe that Makarfi had told him of his plans to contest for the presidential ticket of on the platform of the PDP, Daily Trust reports.

“I would like to make it clear that Makarfi is contesting for the presidential ticket of the PDP. He is like any other Nigerian and he has all the qualities to contest. Makarfi has told me vividly that he is contesting and that could not be linked to a fallacious and misleading assumption that he would support Prince Uche Secondus,” Jalo said.

Jalo also said that the political class will desert the PDP if the party fails to get it right this time.

“If PDP allows governors to impose unpopular candidate against the best interest of the people, we the political class will move and from a new party,” Jalo stated.

He warned that the emergence of Secondus as national chairman of the PDP will be the end of the party.

“How can you make a person that is being investigated by the EFCC as the national chairman of our great party? He emptied the N15 billion left behind in the coffers of the party by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. By the time he left, staff were owed seven months salaries,” Jalo claimed.

However, Ahmed Makarfi has dissociated himself from Jalo’s comments.

“He (Jalo) has never been and is not my spokesman. Therefore the views he expressed remain exclusively his own,” Makarfi said in a message.

Similarly, the PDP’s national publicity secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said on Wednesday, November 22, that Makarfi had not informed the party of his interest in its presidential ticket.
