President Buhari is not thinking of 2019 at the moment - Lai Mohammed

- The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, says President Buhari does not want to be distracted by 2019 elections

- The federal government reiterates its commitment to reward and protect whistle-blowers who provided information that lead to recovery of stolen funds or assets

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, has said President Muhammadu Buhari is more focused on delivering on his campaign promises and does not want to be distracted about re-contesting election in 2019.

The minister on Tuesday, November 28, told the Leadership newspaper in Abuja that Buhari was more committed to fulfilling his election promises to Nigerians and does not want to be distracted by politics.

“Mr President is much more concerned about delivering the campaign promises of the current administration, and don’t want to be distracted. As government, our major concern is delivering the promises of the current administration. At the end of the day what we will campaign with is our achievements," Mohammed said.

Lai Mohammed also reiterated the federal government's commitment to reward and protect whistle-blowers who provided information that led to recovery of stolen funds or assets.

Mohammed, who was responding to a question on the stash of money recovered from an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos, said the whistle blower would get the due reward.

He clarified the compensation modality as contained in the framework, saying any whistle-blower whose information led to recovery of up to N1 billion would receive five per cent of the amount.

He said the reward for any amount between N1 billion and N5 billion was 5% for the first N1 billion and 4% of the remaining N4 billion.
