Appeal court finally affirms Tambuwal’s election as Sokoto governor

- The Court of Appeal has finally affirmed Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as Sokoto state governor

- The supreme court had earlier dismissed PDP's application to remove Tambuwal from office

- The appeal was filed by Umaru Dahiru and Aliyu Sanyinna, aspirants in APC governorship primary election

The Abuja Court of Appeal on Thursday, November 30, dismissed the appeal case filed by Senator Umaru Dahiru, challenging the emergence of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as governor of Sokoto state.

Daily Sun reports that the court had reserved judgment in the suit filed on account of, “non-compliance with laws in the conduct of the primary election” that produced Tambuwal in 2014 as the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress.”

The appeal was filed by Umaru Dahiru and Aliyu Sanyinna, aspirants in the December 4, 2014, APC governorship primary election.

Respondents in the appeal are the APC, Tambuwal and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Supreme Court of Nigeria dismissed application by the Sokoto state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party and it's governorship candidate Senator Abdallah Wali to be joined as parties in a suit filed by Senator Umaru Dahiru challenging the nomination of Tambuwal as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the April 2015 election.

Presiding judge, Justice Sulaiman Galadima, Monday ruled that PDP and Wali lacked the locus standi to apply to be joined in the suit, describing the two as interlopers who should not take part in a matter purely involving another party.
