The Libyan government has reacted to the slave trade of Africans in Tripoli, and condemned the act as criminal and call on international communities for help.

Punch reports that the Libyan government called for an international campaign against illegal migration, saying that an end to the illegal journey will help in a long way to put an end to the slave trade.

The Libyan ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Attia Alkhoder, who made this statement on Friday during a press conference at Abuja said that his government had ordered the relevant agency to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Alkhoder said: “Libya renews its call to put an end to exploitation, suffering of the ambitious African man looking for better life in Europe and human trafficking.

“Libya calls for an international campaign to put an end to this phenomena by providing security and border control to end the Libyan crisis, unify its government institutions and end the transition system that contributed a lot in the weakening control of territory.”

He added that Libya has spent a lot of money accommodating immigrants and facilitating their voluntary return to their countries, insisting that curbing illegal migration needs serious coordination of international efforts.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the personal assistant to the president on social media, Lauretta Onochie, has said President Muhammadu Buhari administration has been evacuating Nigerians from Libya since January 2017 and will continue to do so.

Onochie made the statement on Friday, December 01, in reaction to the evacuation of another batch of 153 Nigerians migrants from Libya.
