The Nigerian army has carried out a major shakeup in the Boko Haram war with the appointment of Major General Rogers Nicholas as the new theatre commander for Operation Lafiya Dole, the joint military force battling Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast.
Vanguard reports that Major General Nicholas is taking over from Major General Ibrahim Attahiru who has been redeployed to army headquarters as the deputy chief of policy and plans.
Attahiru, who took over from Major general Leo Irabor, was at different times, director of administration, Defence Headquarters and General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu.
Before his new appointment as theatre commander, Nicholas served as the chief of logistics at army headquarters in Abuja.
He also functioned as the commander of the Special Security Task Force (STF) in Jos as well as chief of civil military affairs at army headquarters.

Meanwhile, a report by Daily Trust indicates that about 411 members of the Boko Haram sect were killed in an air strike carried out by the Nigerian military on Saturday, October 21.
According to the report, the airstrike was carried out in remote areas in the northern part of Borno state. The report quoted local hunters and members of the Civilian JTF saying the airstrike took place around forested areas in Gudumbali village.
The insurgents were said to have been gathering for two weeks, stationing hundreds of the sect members at some of their camps located there, for a mission to launch coordinated attacks.
