PDP to Yahaya Bello: You are insensitive to plights of Kogi people

- The PDP in Kogi state has accused the state governor Yahaya Bello, of being insensitive to the plights the people

- This accusation is as a result of a private mansion built and commissioned by the governor recently

- The governor has equally replied, saying he has the right to own a personal house

The Peoples democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state of being insensitive to the plight of the people of the state for building and commissioning a mansion while he is still owing workers’ salaries ranging from four to 22 months.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 12, by the publicity secretary of the party in the state, Bode Ogunmola, Nigerian Tribune reports.

The statement read: “By this act, the governor has once again showed to the world that his personal comfort is of more importance to him than the welfare of the people of the state. We wonder why a government which has continued to under-develop the state by its actions will be so insensitive to the extent of building private estates at the detriment of the welfare of the people of the state.

“The present administration in the state is not only a monumental failure but also a great disappointment to the people of the state. We wish to call on Yahaya Bello to pay workers their salary instead of using the resources of the state to feather his nests. Workers are hungry and dying while the governor is busy amassing wealth."

NAIJ.com gathered that the governor, through his director general on media and publicity, Kingsley Fanwo, said he has the right to own a personal house in his hometown.

He said the PDP should rather focus on putting its house to order.

Fanwo said: “When has it become a sin to own a house? The Governor doesn’t need to Commission his house. He didn’t do so but only went home to celebrate an important festival with his people. Has PDP forgotten how our resources were deployed into building and remodeling hotels in Abuja within a space of 13 years?

“The issue of salaries have been the only item on the tray of the opposition. They are trying hard to conquer the truth. We have done very well in paying salaries and it will get better.

“PDP has refused to tell us what happened to our allocations in the last four months of the last administration as they refused to pay salaries, plunging Kogi workers into excruciating suffering.

“Kogi PDP has not told us why their members were arrested by anti-graft agencies because their leaders allegedly shared the two billion naira that would have empowered thousands of youth. Where is our CBN/SME Loan?”

NAIJ.com previously reported that Governor Bello opened personal mansion in style amid complaints by Kogi state workers.

The Cable reports that the house warming attracted dignitaries including Abdul Rahman Ado Ibrahim, the Ohinoyi of Ebira land.

The report further notes that the mansion was completed and opened at a time workers in the state are groaning following many months of unpaid salary and other allowances.
