Restructuring will be a major determinant in 2019 - Britain

The British government has expressed optimism that the issue of restructuring will be a major determinant in Nigeria’s political terrain in 2019.
The Punch reports that Paul Arkwright who is the British high commissioner to Nigeria spoke on Thursday, December 14, insisting that his country supported a united Nigeria.

The British envoy said it was interested in the political process in Nigeria that would lead to the election of credible leaders.
He said the British government would contribute to the training of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in order for them to discharge quality service.
He said: “We are in favour of a united Nigeria; we do not support IPOB, we do not support secessionists. Equally, they have a right to be heard because the constitution provides for freedom of expression, even as restructuring is going to be a major factor in the 2019 elections. Although I do not know how exactly the restructuring will look like, I am sure that it is going to be a major determinant in the 2019 elections.”
Arkwright said his country would encourage the National Assembly to use its legislative power to support the use of card reader and to also see an improvement in its usage.
In the area of security, he said the British government was training troops in the fight against insurgency in the north.
He said Britain was also considering the business of agriculture and mining in Plateau state.
Legit.ng had reported that Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central at the Senate said that those in power in northern Nigeria must see themselves as servants, not as masters or demi-gods.
Legit.ng gathered that he said this at northern senators forum retreat which held in Katsina on Tuesday, December 12.
Sani said the north must focus on education, agriculture, tourism, mines, ICT and health, to steer development in the region.
He added that the region must also revive its manufacturing sector, and prepare a post oil plan.
