Sultan promises to train 200 children orphaned by insurgence in the north

- Sultan of Sokoto have promised to sponsor the education of 200 orphans

- The children are those orphaned by the insurgency in northern Nigeria

- The sultan said the 200 children would be trained to any level of education they desire

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Friday, December 15, announced his plan to sponsor the education of about 200 children orphaned by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Sultan who made the statement at the opening of the 28th National Conference of the Muslim Sisters Organisation of Nigeria in Sokoto, lamented that their are about 50,000 orphans languishing at various Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.

He said: “So we are making arrangements to bring at least 200 of them to Sokoto and a house had already been prepared for them here.

”The aim of the gesture is to train them to any level of education they so desire, hence, have a bright future, as well a sense of belonging.”

The Sun newspaper reports that the Sultan further challenged the organization to brainstorm on plausible ways to curb the high cost of marriages, high rate of divorce in the north, as well stemming the tide of drug abuse.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that a security source has revealed that a top Boko Haram commander was arrested on Thursday, December 14, by the intelligence unit of the Borno state police command following a tip off, The Nation reports.

The Boko Haram commander, who is known as Ibrahim Audu Diye alias Romeo according to the source was arrested at about 2pm Thursday, December 14, at an undisclosed location in Borno state.
