Ronaldo plays down injury scare ahead of weekend's El Clasico

Cristiano Ronaldo has allayed fears that he will miss the upcoming El Clasico showdown with Barcelona due to injury.

The Portuguese superstar scored the match winning goal for Real Madrid in their 1 - 0 win over Gremio as they retained the FIFA Club World Cup at the weekend.

The 32-year-old however suffered a calf problem later in the game.

He managed to play through the pain barrier, although admitted it was “a bit tough”.

“I had some problems in my calf,” he said, quoted in Spanish daily Sport .

“But I am sure I will be OK”.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, revealed his delight to secure yet another trophy for Real.

He said: “I am really happy, I've helped to win the trophy.

“The team is phenomenal and it's another trophy.”

Barca are six points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid and 11 points ahead of Madrid in fourth going into the Clasico.

The upcoming EL Clasico will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, December 23. Kick off at 1pm.
