Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club will sign Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos from PAS Giannina this month.
The Frenchman however said the 20-year-old will be immediately sent out on loan.
News of the Gunner's approach for the center-back was revealed on Wednesday, January 3 and the boss has now confirmed the deal after the 2-2 draw with Chelsea.
When asked about if Mavropanos would join the club, Wenger said: "Yes, but he's not ready to play for us. We'll give him out on loan."
The defender is expected to join German club Werder Bremen on loan after he moves to the Emirates for around £2.2million.
Mavropanos has impressed in Greece's Super League for PAS Giannina, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.
He becomes the first Arsenal signing since the arrival of former Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat.
The Greece defender is also the first signing by the London club in the January transfer window.
