- Some Nigerians have, in an opinion poll, called on President Buhari to resign as the minister of Petroleum Resources

- President Buhari had promised to sanitise the petroleum industry when he appointed himself as the minister of Petroleum Resources

Two years after appointing himself as the minister of Petroleum Resources and named Ibe Kachikwu as the minister of State for Petroleum, majority of Nigerians have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign from his position as minister.

The country have been facing fuel crises for the past weeks as a result of scarcity of the product.

Nigerians made the call for the president to resign as minister of Petroleum Resources in an opinion poll conducted by Premium Times.

In the poll, 66.9 per cent of the 6,739 participants want the president to exit his position as minister.

The president when he appointed himself as the minister of Petroleum Resources had pledged to rid the industry of corruption and shady deals and also sanitise Nigeria’s oil industry.

On the poll, the news outlet reported that: "A total of 6,739 participants took part in the online poll which lasted over a week. The poll was conducted in a way that made it impossible for a respondent to vote more than once from the same computer or mobile device.

"The participants were asked a single question: “Should Buhari resign as petroleum minister?”

"While 66.9 per cent of the respondents (4,508) said Mr. Buhari should resign as petroleum minister, 24.5 per cent (1,650 respondents), said he should not.

"About eight per cent of the participants (581 votes) said they don’t care whether or not the president resigns as petroleum minister."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that business activities in Kaduna are currently at a standstill following the biting fuel scarcity in the state.

This is as President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to visit the state today, Thursday, January 4.

The president is expected to commission Nigeria's first inland dry port located in Kakuri area of the state.
