The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pleaded with the people of Osun state to support the state government by regularly paying their taxes.
The Osun state chapter of the party made the plea in a statement issued by its director of publicity, research and strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, Leadership reports.
"The most successful government in Yorubaland led by our own Legendary, Chief Obafemi Awolowo depended on taxes to provide free education, free medical care and the numerous farm settlements which made the old Western Region the greatest and best in Nigeria,” the APC stated.
The party noted that taxes were crucial to the development of Osun state, adding that no government takes lightly the issue of taxation in the whole world.
It said taxes were used to fund the construction of roads, schools, provide water, electricity and other social amenities.
It stated that if there are no tax revenues, the state can hardly find the means even to develop its natural resources.
The APC said: “That is the more reason we appeal to the good people of Osun to, at least, follow the example of Lagos, where people willingly pay their taxes to make Lagos greater than any other state of the Federation. “Osun can be a great community within its own capability if people pay their taxes.
