In a world where footballers are becoming richer and bigger celebrities, they are being immortalized with statues.
While some have been a success others have truly been an eyesore.
Here are five famous footballers who are still active and have been honoured with statues;
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
CR7 recently had an ice statue moulded in his image but while that will melt in no time soon, the one unveiled at the Madiera airport which was renamed after the footballer is an eyesore.
Despite looking nothing like Ronaldo it is still not the worst of the bunch.
A real effort was made to immortalize Messi with a statue erected on Paseo de la Gloria (Glory Street) in Buenos Aires.
The street boasts statues of other famous Argentine sports starts such as tennis player Gabriela Sabatini and basketball player Manuel Ginobili. The statue has already been destroyed twice by vandals.
3. Asamoah Gyan
Probably the worst statue of the bunch is one of the Ghana star in his home country.
The sculptor is unknown and this statue was released after a woeful effort to honour the next man on the list.
4. Michael Essien
Essien is a true legend of the game following his exploits with Chelsea and Lyon but efforts to immortalize him were bad.
His statue which was the first released by the same person who moulded Gyan is located in Kumasi, Ghana.
The best of the bunch is one of Neymar which was built during the player's time at Barcelona.
His Madame Tussauds wax figure was unveiled in a private ceemony at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper in Spain in 2016.
