- Chelsea vs Arsenal played out a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the Carabao Cup
- Arsenal were without Mesut Ozil and Alexis was only able to start on the bench
- Wenger watched from the stance as he continued his touchline ban
Arsenal traveled to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi final on Wednesday, January 10 and were able to force a strong Chelsea side to a 0-0 to give them the advantage going into the return leg at the Emirates.
The game failed to deliver the type of excitement we saw when both teams met last week at the Emirates in the Premier League where they both played out a 2-2 draw in the game of the season contender.
Both teams were a bit flatfooted in he first half with chances rarely created at both ends, Chelsea dominated the early exchanges but failed to create meaningful chances with Alvaro Morata leading the line.
Arsenal who were without their talisman in midfield Mesut Ozil failed to penetrate the Chelsea backline, they were also missing the brilliance of Alexis Sanchez upfront.
Sanchez has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates and Arsene Wenger who was continuing his sideline ban left the Chilean on the bench.
The second half was a bit more lively with Chelsea creating more but for the umpteenth time Morata was guilty of squandering decent chances.
