Governor Udom, Akpabio in 'full political' war

- The governor of Akwa Ibom state, Emmanuel Udom, and his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio, are currently in a 'political war'

- The former had accused the governor of neglecting his senatorial district, Akwa Ibom North West

- The former governor also warned that the next election is already around the corner as the people of the state will make their decisions for their leaders in 2019

The current governor of Akwa Ibom state, Emmanuel Udom, and his predecessor, Godswill Akpabio, are currently engaged in a political war.

Premium Times reports that Akpabio and his 'Gordon' have not enjoyed the best of times since the festive season.

Contrary to reports that both men have been the best of friends, it was gathered that Akpabio who is the Senate minority leader has accused Udom of neglecting his senatorial district, Akwa Ibom North West.

NAIJ.com gathered that Akpabio had hinted that it was better for Udom to be informed that 2019 is around the corner.

Akpabio, a former governor of the state said: “2018 is less than one year to election, all is not well. Don’t allow anybody to deceive you that all is well.”

Evidence that things were not going well between the two men came to limelight after an aide to Udom, Aniekeme Finbarr, in a rejoinder listed all the 'Good things the present governor had done in Akwa Ibom North West.

The rejoinder received an attack from Akpabio's media aide, Anietie Ekong.

Along in a statement in response to Finbarr's highlights said the rejoinder failed to address concerns raised by elders and leaders of the district.

“It’s like telling Senator Akpabio, ‘shut up, sir’," Ekong said.

Meanwhile, Udom in a blow said he will deal decisively with anyone who plans to cause trouble in the state.

He also added that he will carry out his threat irrespective of the person's position or status in the state.

This year is going to be a little bit busier in terms of politics and once you enter into a political terrain of this nature so many things come up.

“But let me also use this platform to warn any Akwa Ibom person that with the sacrifice we’ve made to maintain peace in the state, we won’t tolerate anybody, anybody underlined, to breach that peace.

“You can see that people have made a lot of sacrifices in the last three years to maintain peace in the state,” Udom said.

Also, former governor Akpabio condemning remarks by his predecessor said he was shocked by the emerging theory that excellencecan be sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity.

“Let me also say here that it’s just a new political theory where a postgraduate student would score 100 per cent and you say it’s a mock examination and is a failure.

"So if you score 100 per cent and under the new dispensation of a political theory, it is a failure. It means we have to go back to the drawing board and know what the pass mark is.

If 100 per cent under the new political theory is a failure then it holds much to be desired," Akpabio said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported that Akpabio has threatened to withdraw his support for his successor Governor Udom.

Akpabio said his senatorial district, Akwa Ibom northwest, has been marginalised by the present government.

He said he would only endorse Emmanuel’s re-election if the policies and programmes of the administration were not discriminatory against his senatorial district.
