2019 elections last battle for APC -Rotimi Amaechi

- The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, assures party members that there will be no imposition of candidates by the APC during the party's primaries

- He advocates for rotation of power among the ethnic nationalities in Rivers state

- PDP says asking Buhari to run for second term is self-serving

The 2019 general election has been described as the last battle for members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi made the statement on Saturday, January 13, during a reception organised for him as grand patron of Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) at the Movement’s national secretariat at Isiokpo, Ikwerre local government area of Rivers state.

The minister who is the leader of the APC in the south-south zone also assured party members that there would no imposition of candidates by the APC during this year’s primaries.

He said: "The 2019 elections, especially the governorship, are our last battle. If we win, we will take over Rivers State. If we lose in the election, we will go home and rest.

"We will not impose any candidate. Anybody who will go for any position, like chairmanship, should go for primaries. Anybody who wins will be the party’s candidate.”

He advocated for the rotation of power among the ethnic nationalities in the state

The former Rivers state governor said there was no need for Ikwerre people to monopolise political power in the state.

He urged members of the APC and IYM to participate in the ongoing voter registration, adding that that was the avnue through which the PDP could be voted out in Rivers state.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party has said President Muhammadu Buhari will face imminent electoral defeat in the presidential election come 2019.

The PDP made the statement in reaction to a report that Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state and six other governors from the northern part of the country under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday, January 12, declared that they wanted President Muhammadu Buhari to get a second term.

The opposition party said El-Rufai and his counterparts were afraid of losing their jobs in 2019 and thus resorted to the visit.

The party also maintained that President Buhari will lose in the 2019 election.
