Daily Trust had reported on Sunday, January 14, that the money went missing from the vault of the NIA at its headquarters in Abuja.

It was reported that the evacuation was carried out two days after President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar as the new director-general of the NIA.

It was alleged that the national security adviser is believed to have ordered the evacuation of the money following the appointment of a new DG.

Sources said: “What is curious to officials in the Presidency is why now? What links this money and that found in Ikoyi? Why wasn’t the money earlier than now, when the Acting DG kept it intact?

“Why would anyone move it out now? If it has to be moved, why not to the TSA account in the CBN which the President would have liked?”

Legit.ng had reported that President Buhari approved the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar as substantive director-general of the National Intelligence Agency.

The president approved the appointment on Wednesday, January 10, and the development was made public by Femi Adesina, his special adviser on media and publicity.

In a statement released same day, Adesina stated that the appointment took effect immediately.
