Governor Okorocha reacts to herdsmen killings

- Governor Rochas Okorocha has lamented the terrorism and herdsmen crises in Nigeria

- The governor said this moment is a very difficult one in the history of the nation

- He said the nation is consoled by the fact that there are gallant soldiers who are ready to lay their lives to save the nation

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state while speaking at this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at Heroes Square, Owerri, lamented the terrorism and the herdsmen killings currently going on in the country.

Vanguard reports that the governor, who spoke through his chief press secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, said Nigeria is currently experiencing a difficult time in the history of the nation.

He said: “Nigeria today is passing through a very difficult time. We are having so many challenges, ranging from terrorism to activities of the evil herdsmen and those who have chosen to kill for no just reason.

“It comes to a point when a nation may look hopeless and helpless. This is a very difficult moment in the history of the nation, but suffice it to say that we are consoled by the fact that we have gallant soldiers who are ready to lay their lives to save our nation."

NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari held a meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom and elders from Benue state over the reported killing by suspected herdsmen in the state.

Benue state was thrown into mourning over the killing in the state and President Buhari had earlier sent the inspector-general of police, Abubakar Idris, to the state to attend to the critical situation.

Meanwhile, the Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, has appealed to the indigenes of his state and Nigerians in general, to keep appreciating the efforts of security personnel as they carry out their duties of providing security and sustaining the nation’s peace and unity.

The governor made his remarks during a Channels TV interview in Awka on Monday, January 15, as the nation marks the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

He thanked the security agencies for all their sacrifices to ensure that peace is maintained in his state.
