President Buhari will be defeated in 2019 election - Ahmed Makarfi insists

- PDP says it will wait for the presidential candidate of the APC to emerge before presenting a strategy to defeat the candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it well defeat any presidential candidate presented by the All Progressives Congress (APC), including President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general election.

Speaking with This Day in an interview on Monday, January 22, the immediate past caretaker chairman of the PDP, Ahmed Makarfi, stated that his party will wait for the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to emerge before presenting a strategy to defeat the candidate.

He said…"Irrespective of the candidate the party presents, whether it is Buhari or any other candidate, he will be roundly defeated by the PDP in 2019. We are waiting for the candidate to emerge before we present our strategy to defeat such candidate. It is not the business of our party to determine the candidate of the APC or any other party.”

Speaking on the socio-political and economic challenges in this country, Makarfi, said the federal government is overwhelmed with the challenges which has never been worse than this before.

“The security situation is worse, there are security crises everywhere. Our economy is very bad. The activities of insurgents are becoming alarming,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, January 22, in Abuja promised to continue to do his best for Nigeria and its citizens adding that he would ensure he is guided by clear conscience in making decisions for the country’s progress.

Daily Independent reports the president as stating this when he received leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Southeastern part of the country at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The report said the president thanked the leaders for their patriotism, sacrifices and support for the peace and stability of the country just as he also commended them for acknowledging the laudable and consistent efforts of his administration to restore Nigeria to the position of eminence.
