The federal University of Nigeria (usually referred to as UNN) is located in the town of Nsukka, Enugu State. It was founded in 1955 and opened for admission in 1960. It was the first educational facility in Nigeria of this level organized just like American ones. The University has 15 faculties and 102 departments. In the university, there are 82 programmes for undergraduates and 211 programmes for postgraduates. Surely, such a number of students requires a huge campus.

The university has four campuses. The first one is Nsukka (referred to as UNN), located in the town of Nsukka, about 80km northwards from Enugu. It’s situated in the hilly Savannah and provides its inhabitants with a pleasant and healthy atmosphere. The campus owns 209 hectares of land where they can organize and run an experimental farm. With Enugu Nsukka campus is connected through automobile transportation. The Nsukka town has good stores and a big marketplace. In this campus, they study agriculture, biological sciences, veterinary medicine, health sciences, physical, technical, and social sciences, education, and arts.

The next one is the University of Nigeria Enugu campus (referred to as UNEC), which was previously known as the College of Arts, Science and Technology. It was attached to the university in 1961 and now it consists of 200 hectares of land in the very heart of the Enugu city. The campus houses faculties of business administration, law, ecology, and medical sciences.

25km southwards from Enugu, there is another campus, Ituku-Ozalla, which offers faculties of medical sciences and dentistry. The Aba campus is home to the Institute of Nigerian Languages.
