Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state has cancelled an ongoing three-day retreat of members of the state executive council and permanent secretaries at the Jubilee Chalets, Epe, following the sudden death of special adviser on commerce, industry and cooperatives to the governor, Deji Tinubu.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Deji, who was recently moved from being special adviser on sports and chairman of the state’s sports commission to take up his new portfolio, had slumped while playing five aside match on Thursday evening, January 25, with fellow participants.

Legit.ng gathered that Governor Ambode announced the cancellation of the retreat, which officially commenced on Thursday, January 25, and was to end on Saturday, January 27.

A source, according to Nigerian Tribune, disclosed that the governor announced the cancellation in honour of the deceased, whose sudden passage, he said the governor himself described as a huge loss to the state and its people.

“The retreat has been cancelled, it cannot go on again because of the sad happening. The governor has asked that it should be discontinued in honour of the deceased,” the source, who was also in mourning mood said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that the special adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on commerce, Deji Tinubu, is reported to have slumped and died while playing a football game in Lagos state.
