Kidnappers release lawmaker’s son in Zamfara

- A federal lawmaker's son who was kidnapped in Zamfara state has regained freedom

- The state police public relations officer Muhammad Shehu confirmed the occurrence

- Shehu, however, said the police are hoping to locate the hideout of the criminals

The last of the two sons of the member representing Maradun/Bakura federal constituency of Zamfara state, Alhaji Yahaya Chado has been released by his abductors after a week in captivity.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Muhammad Yahaya and his elder brother Junaidu Yahaya were abducted by gunmen on Jan. 22 at their home in Gora village, Maradun Local Government Area.

The gunmen, who went away with the two children, also killed six and wounded four other persons on their way out of the village.

However, the abductors released Muhammad about two hours later with a mobile phone number on which they demanded N10 million as ransom to release Junaidu.

The police public relations officer in the state, Muhammad Shehu said: ''we are not aware of the payment of any amount as ransom to secure the release of the victim.''

Junaidu, who was dropped in the village by the abductors on Tuesday, has been taken to the Police Headquarters in Gusau for debriefing.

he added: ''We are hoping to get to the hideout of the criminals.''

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the police spokesperson in the state Mohammed Shehu said in Gusau on Monday, January 22, that the children were abducted after the gunmen invaded the lawmaker’s home at Gora in Maradun Local Government Area.

The report quoted Shehu as saying three persons were killed and four others wounded during the attack at about 1am.

They shot sporadically in the air before going to the house of their victims. ''The gunmen forcefully took away the two victims, Muhammad Yahaya, 27, and his elder brother, Junaidu Yahaya, who is about 35 years old,” he said.

He said after the gunmen left the house, they also shot and killed six persons and wounded four others.
