Babangida's aide denies news of his arrest

- Kassim Afegbua has reacted to report that the police ordered his immediate arrest

- The spokesperson to Babangida described the report as cooked up

Kassim Afegbua who is the spokesperson of former head of state, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has denied that he was arrested by the police.

Afegbua signed a statement on behalf of his boss on Sunday, February 4 and on Monday, February 5; there were reports of his arrest.

Premium Times reports that the spokesperson to the former head of state said: “There’s nothing like that” describing the news as “a cooked up story.”

Responding to report that sources in the presidency claimed there was order for his arrest, Kassim said: “Are presidential sources the Nigerian police?”

Meanwhile, controversy has continued to trail the "vote out Buhari in 2019 statement". Kassim Afegbua, the spokesman of Ibrahim Babangida, restated that the former military president approved the statement he issued, calling on Nigerians to vote out President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Daily Trust reports that Afegbua maintained that IBB has not denied the statement. According to him, ''The statement is in order. IBB did not hold any press conference in Minna. It was overzealous people that issued that statement of his denial.

''I wouldn’t issue any statement without his approval. Go ahead with the statement. I have spoken with him and he said he has not recanted the statement.''

It was learnt that Babangida in a press statement released on Sunday, February 4, by Afegbua, urged Buhari to sacrifice his personal ambition for national interest.
