Military captures Boko Haram bomb factory, kills many terrorists

- Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, the deputy director of public relations at the theatre command of Operation Lafiya Dole, says the soldiers recorded the victory on Tuesday, February 6, as part of earlier progress made in the conduct of Operation Deep Punch II

- Nwachukwu states that during their onslaught, the soldiers went deep into the recesses of Camp Zairo and carried out an offensive against insurgents defending a major IED factory

- He reveals that the soldiers gallantly engaged the terrorists, demobilized their vehicle-borne IEDs and killed quite a number of them

The Nigerian military has destroyed a Boko Haram improvised explosive device (IED) factory in Sambisa forest.

Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, the deputy director of public relations at the theatre command of operation Lafiya Dole, revealed this in a signed statement on Wednesday, February 7.

According to him, several terrorists were killed in the raid carried out by both ground troops and airmen.

Nwachuchwu said the soldiers recorded the victory on Tuesday, February 6, as part of the earlier progress made in the conduct of Operation Deep Punch II.

The colonel said that the earlier offensive and clearance operation had done much to curb the activities of the terrorists and has destroy many of their hideouts in Lake Chad and the Sambisa forest in Borno state.

During the operation, troops, aided by the Nigerian Air Force, also waded deep into the recesses of Camp Zairo and aggressively carried out an offensive against insurgents who were defending a major IED factory.

The soldiers bravely engaged the terrorists, demobilised their vehicle-borne IEDs and killed quite a number of them. The soldiers also took over the IED factory.

They also seized 88 gas cylinders, one laptop computer, and a 100m ultra high-frequency hand-held radio.

Other items recovered include one Motorola GP 180, theodolite and two Global Positioning Systems (GPS), while the troops destroyed 22 motorcycles, 18 bicycles and provisions store.

The spokesman of the theatre command said the soldiers’ morale remains high as they are dogged to ensuring the total eradication Boko Haram presence in the nation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that brigade commander of 22 army Brigade in Dikwa, Borno state, Brigadier General John Ochai earlier assured returnee residents of Dikwa local government area that the place was safe and secure and urged them to tell others to return home.

Ochai gave the assurance while addressing a group of returnee residents who paid him a visit. He stated that Dikwa was safe and urged the people to bring down their families and start their business all over again.
