DPR seals 14 filling stations over diversion, overpricing

- Mohammed Makera, the Sokoto zonal operations controller of DPR says a filling station suspected of diverting its product would remain sealed until it brings back the commodity

- He states that Sokoto and environs were supplied 14 trucks of petrol while Kebbi and environs received 26 trucks

Fourteen filling stations in Sokoto and Kebbi states have been sealed by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) over alleged diversion of petroleum and over pricing.

Mohammed Makera, the Sokoto zonal operations controller of DPR disclosed that six of the filling stations are in Sokoto and the remaining seven in Kebbi state.

He said owners of the sealed filling stations would pay a fine of N100,000 per pump, Daily Trust reports.

The coordinator however noted that the filling station suspected of diverting its product would remain sealed until it brings back the commodity.

Makera, when detailing the breakdown of the supplies the two states had received, noted that a total of 40 trucks in recent time has been sent to the states.

He said of that number, Sokoto and environs received 14 trucks while kebbi and environs received 26 trucks.

"Our prayer was to get more supplies these coming days to be able to stabilize the situation. Thank God there is a noticeable improvement for now," he said.

"We don't mind how and where you get your supply, you must sell it at the price approved by the government or be sanctioned.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has programmed to bring in two cargoes of petrol per day for the rest of February 2018 to boost supply.

The move is in a bid to keep the country wet with petrol and eradicate the fuel queues that have resurfaced in some cities.

Legit.ng gathered that each of the two cargoes is 50 million litres making a total of 100 million litres that will be brought in per day for the rest of February to increase supply and replenish strategic reserves.

Also, to enhance supply, 45 million litres of petrol was discharged from ships into jetties across the country on Tuesday, February 6.
