Legit.ng gathers that the senator, who became the subject of ridicule on social media, insisted that he had done the right thing.

He stated that other appliances were also given out, and not just frying pans.

In his words: “I have no regrets being called ‘frying pan senator’. Those who call me ‘frying pan senator’ should have said ‘skill acquisition and empowerment senator’; that would have been nice.

“Frying pan is just an item out of the lot. What would you give the woman frying bean cake, popularly known as akara?

“I didn’t give only frying pan; we gave gas cylinders, stoves, spoons and money; that’s what she needs.

“Would you be a taxi driver and we give you train? If you are a taxi driver I will give you taxi; I have distributed tricycles, sewing machines and many more.

“So, I don’t regret nor feel bad when my constituents call me ‘frying pan senator’."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Senator Mao Ohuabunwa described media reports insinuating that he empowered women in his constituency with frying pan and camp gas as mischievous and deliberate spread of falsehood.

Senator Ohuabunwa, who spoke through his special assistant, Uche Okoli, described the report as a distortion of fact and misrepresentation of what actually happened.

According to Okoli, his boss conducted a skill acquisition training programme in 2017 which was handled by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDAN), adding that after the training, each person was equipped with the necessary tools needed in the area of training with a financial support of up to N50,000.
