Members of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kwara have commended the decision of some supporters of the to exit, adding that they may join them to move to another party.
Sunday Fasanmi, the spokesperson of the APC stalwarts, Olabode Towoju and Tunji Olawuyi, disclosed this in his conversation with newsmen on Monday, February 12, in Abuja, Nigerian Tribune reports.
He said the decision of the two party stalwarts to move to another party, specifically to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was due to the alleged poor treatments they had experienced over time.
Fasanm, speaking on behalf of the supporters, said the ill-treatment of the principal officers of APC in Kwara was equal to a betrayal of trust..
It was reported that Towoju and Olawuyi contested for the House of Representatives in Irepodun, Isin, Oke-ero and Ekiti federal constituency of Kwara at different times.
Fasanm stated that Towoju worked hard for the party in the state and at the federal level but was not given the well-deserved recognition after the party got into power.
He remarked: "And in spite of the ill-treatment, Towoju was not perturbed." He said the supporters were ready to move to any party en mass if it would provide a viable platform for them to realise their dream to be of service to the people.
He said Towoju had been very useful to the people of his constituency, particularly his community; hence the supporters would do all within their powers to make his dream become a reality..
Fasanmi said once the stalwarts give the supporters the approval to defect to PDP, they would not fail to do so. He stressed that the APC had been unfair to them and that there is inequality in the party.
He said supporters of Olawuyi shared similar views about the APC. According to Fasanmi, the supporters further said that they were also awaiting his directive to invite them to PDP.
He said: “We can no longer be onlookers while people who did little or nothing to help the APC keep running the affairs of the party."
He said soon a date would be given to the people when they would eventually quit the APC in the state, adding that this was necessary to save their political careers.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that the Kwara state caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC), named Caucus for Progressive Change, had offered to provide a quick exit for Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed from the party.
The party came to this conclusion after the governor was quoted as saying he and his political family will dump the APC if their supporters ask them to do so.
