Former Arsenal academy chief Liam Brady has explained that Tottenham’s Harry Kane was released by Arsenal as kid because he was chubby and not very athletic.

The Englishman spent two years at Gunners academy but was dumped aged nine and moved across North London two years later.

Harry Kane is now one of the most feared strikers in the world considering his performances since he joined Tottenham.

Kane has gone on to score 101 Premier League goals for Tottenham and his winner at Wembley last Saturday against Arsenal was his seventh strike against his North London rivals.

Liam Brady who was in charge of the Gunners youth set up between 1996 and 2013 told Corriere della Sera: “Unfortunately yes. He was chubby and not very athletic, but we got it wrong.

'''Even Tottenham loaned him out to the lower Leagues three or four times though.

“But through his determination he has carved out an amazing career and he deserves it.

“After Messi, Ronaldo and Lewandowksi, there is Kane, the statistics speak for themselves and he’s still only 24.”

Tottenham are currently occupying fourth position on the Premier League standings with 52 points after 27 games played so far this season.
