- Lionel Messi believes Neymar will overthrow Cristiano Ronaldo if PSG knock out Real Madrid in the Champions League
- Messi and Ronaldo have won ten Ballon d’or awards between themselves with Neymar becoming their closest rivals
- Reports also have it that Neymar’s ex-Barcelona teammates are also rooting for his side to qualify at the expense of their rivals
Lionel Messi thinks Cristiano Ronaldo’s supremacy over Neymar will come to an end if Paris Saint Germain knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League, Don Balon reports.
The Barcelona main man sent a good luck message to his former Brazilian teammate ahead of the Champions League round of 16 tie between the two domestic champions.
Messi and Ronaldo have been in a thug of war in La Liga in the last nine years when the Portuguese made his £80m world record move from Manchester United to Real Madrid.
Between them, they have won the prestigious Ballon d’Or award five times each with Neymar emerging as their closest competitor in recent years.
If Real should emerge Champions of Europe again, Ronaldo can put himself in a good position to once again be named the world’s best player.
However, Don Balon claim Messi predicts Real and PSG’s last-16 tie could be the end of the Ronaldo’s era in winning the coveted award.
Neymar will be the man to watch in the attack when Ligue 1 champions will be looking to take an advantage away in the first leg clash at the Bernabeu as Messi has apparently been in touch with him to ‘wish him all the luck in the world’.
Messi and Neymar remain on good terms despite the Brazilian ditching Barcelona for a world record fee to the French capital last summer.
The pair might have supposedly promised to put themselves against each other in May’s Champions League final if their teams do not cross paths along the line.
Messi is not alone supporting Neymar to come out tops against their La Liga rivals, his ex-Barcelona team-mates are also said to be in his corner too.
