Vigilance Group Fronts For Kidnappers In Delta

THE vigilance group in Ufuoma community in Ughelli Norh Local Government Area of Delta State has been implicated in a series of kidnappings following the arrest of its vice chairman, one Jite Asagba and four others by the police.

Asagba, 28, had confessed to the kidnap of one Mrs Joy Ejovi of Ufuoma town and the macheting of her husband recently.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Charles Moka, in a statement, on Friday, lamented the trend in the state where vigilance group members had turned accomplices of kidnappers and robbers.

Other suspects arrested, according to Moka, are Godwin Odokpor (38), Peter Etavwotuto (42), Oghenerewe Umukoro (25), while one Ese is still hiding with the victim.

In a similar development, Moka said an attempt to abduct a retired school principal, Mr Frank Nbukama, at Obonkpa, near Isseluku, has led three suspects to the police custody.

The suspects are Earnest Eromosele of Ekpoma, Edo State, Chidi Ekweme of Okoh, Anambra State and Chukwuma Jomas Nunyei of Obonkpa, who brought the gang members from Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Items recovered from them include one pistol and three live cartridges.

The PPRO alerted members of the public to a trend where criminals drugged commercial tricycle operators and dispossess them of their motorcycles.

Already, Moka said, three suspects had been arrested for drugging one Osakwe Nnamdi and robbing him of his tricycle with registration number: HAL 425 QA, having hired him from Agbor to Umunede.

The suspects, Innocent Ighodalo (34), Shedrack Akam (20) and Agbako Ndubuisi (22), were alleged to have also drugged one Wisdom Odigri and robbed him of his motorcycle.

Three cans of spiked drinks, fried turkey meat and bottled water were among the items recovered from the suspects.
