A professor of political science and currently the provost of the College of Social and Management Sciences, Afe Babalola University, Ekiti state, Professor Adeolu Durotoye, has joined the race for the September 22, governorship election in Osun state.
Durotoye who hails from Osogbo, the state capital, said he decided to join the race to serve the people with his wealth of experience and deliver good governance, Daily Trust reports.
He said: “We have a clear mission and vision. Our mission is to create an enabling environment for everyone to excel. Our vision is to make Osun state what the state of California is to America.”
NAIJ.com gathered that Durotoye, who got a PhD in 2001, was a journalist with the Guardian and African Concord before he joined the academia.
He taught politics at different times at the University of Ibadan, the University of Toronto and Afe Babalola University.
NAIJ.com previously reported that as the gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun states draw nearer, the Accord Party in the southwest said that its candidates would emerge winners of the two polls.
Dokun Babarinde, the national vice chairman of Accord Party in the southwest, made the declaration on Wednesday in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), after its zonal meeting in Ibadan.
Babarinde said the performance of Accord Party in the elections would shock the two major parties: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).
In another report by NAIJ.com, Sam Wanti, an American trained detective formally attached to the Federal Bureau of Investigations FBI/K9B, declared his ambition to run for the presidency in 2019.
Wanti, who is from Imo state claimed that as one of the officially recognised 364 criminalists in the world, said he had the capacity to tackle the problem of corruption.
He claimed President Donald Trump of US was aware of his political ambition and was in support.
Wanti who is running under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) vowed to reduce the capacity of corruption if elected.
