Eric Bailly set to return to action for Manchester United

- The 23-year-old has not played since United’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last November, 2017

- United have a crucial round of 16 Champions League clash with Sevilla and a FA Cup game with Huddersfield

Manchester United have been handed a huge injury boost as Eric Bailly is expected to return to training in the week and could possibly start in the Champions League tie against Sevilla.

The Ivorian centre-back has been on the sidelines since picking up an ankle injury in November’s 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

The 23-year-old’s return will be a timely boost for Jose Mourinho, as England pair, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have not been their best especially in the last two matches.

Jones let in an own goal in last month’s defeat at Tottenham and Smalling was booked for diving in the loss at Saint James’ Park to Newcastle.

The return of the first choice center-back will boost their chances of progressing over Bailly’s familiar opponents in the Champions League.

According to Manchester Evening News, Bailly is set resume training and could be fit enough to face Sevilla in the Champions League in the coming week.

Speaking on Bailly’s injury in December, Mourinho said: "I don't want to be pessimistic, I want to leave it with the doctor.

"But you see today, we play with Smalling and Jones, we have Lindelof on the bench, Blind on the bench, Marcos Rojo is injured but nothing really big, so during all season we have problems with central defenders, but because the number is four or five, we manage always to have.

"And Chris Smalling is playing amazingly well, I think seven or eight matches in a row, so we are fine."

Bailly, who arrived at Old Trafford for £30m last summer from Spanish side Villarreal had surgery to his ankle in December with has kept him out for weeks.

The title race in the Premier League is realistically over as United are currently second in the Premier League, 16 points behind table-topping rivals Manchester City and the league could be decided when both teams play in April.
